TEHRAN (IQNA) – An interpretation of the Holy Quran in the Amazigh language was unveiled in Algeria.

According to Algeria Radio’s website, Sheikh Si Hajj Muhnad Tayyeb has written the Quran work.

It was unveiled in a ceremony in Algiers on Saturday attended by the country’s Awqaf and Religious Affairs Minister Mohammed Isa.

In an address, Isa praised Sheikh Tayyeb for writing the grand work, which is the first of its kind in the Amazigh language.

He said the book has established a new way of conducting religious research in Amazigh that paves the way for future research in the field.

Sheikh Tayyeb’s Quran exegesis, named al-Tafsir al-Muyasar Lil-Kalam al-Muwaqar has been printed in Arabic script.

The Algerian National Society for Sustainable Development (Nima) has published 100,000 copies of the book and will distribute them in Algeria and a number of other countries.

Algeria is a Muslim-majority country in North Africa. Some 98 percent of the country’s population follow Islam.

The Amazigh language is indigenous to North Africa. It is spoken by large populations in Algeria and Morocco, and by smaller populations in Libya, Tunisia, and northern Mali.
